DAZN ‘possibly’ interested in acquiring BT Sport

Kevin Mayer told the RTS Cambridge Convention Mayer"it's really quiet" in terms of talks around a potential acquisition of the broadcaster

DAZN’s chairman Kevin Mayer has said the sports streamer is “possibly” interested in buying BT Sport.

Mayer was asked if acquiring BT Sport would give DAZN a foot in the door in terms of Premier League TV rights.

“We would love to have EPL ultimately, how we get there, there are many paths to get there,” he told the Royal Television Society Cambridge Convention.

“I’m philosophical about it, whatever makes most sense. BT Sport is a great business.”

Mayer went on to say “it’s really quiet” in terms of talks around a potential acquisition of the broadcaster.

BT confirmed it was holding talks around a potential sale of its sports broadcasting arm in April. A number of companies have been rumoured as potential suitors but no deal has been announced so far.

In July BT’s chief executive Philip Jansen said he hoped to reach a deal by the next quarter.
