Carsten Schmidt to step down as Sky Deutschland chairman

Hands duties to Devesh Raj

Carsten Schmidt has announced plans to step down as chairman of Sky Deutschland’s executive board at the end of the year.

Schmidt will remain with the company as senior advisor in 2020 but hands chair duties to Devesh Raj, formerly Sky Continental Europe COO and interim Sky Deutschland CCO.

Having been with the company for more than 20 years, including four years as CEO, Schmidt has overseen the German launches of Sky Sport News HD, Sky Q and the production of award-winning Sky Originals such as Das Boot and Babylon Berlin.

Andrea Zappia, Sky CEO Continental Europe, said: “I would like to personally thank Carsten. With strong leadership and great dedication, he has played a significant role in Sky’s growth and success over the last two decades. With over five million customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and a powerful team, the company is ready to master the challenges ahead.”

Raj added: “Having been able to get to know Sky in the past few months, I am looking forward to the new task. Sky Deutschland is well positioned in a competitive market environment. We will now build on that and consistently develop the business.”
