Canal Plus, beIN Sports enter distribution talks

BeIN Sports would exclusively sub-license Ligue 1 rights to Canal Plus

Canal Plus and beIN Sports have entered talks for a five-year exclusive distribution and sub-licensing deal in France, whereby Canal Plus would distribute all of beIN Sports’s premium channels and content.

BeIN Sports would also exclusively sub-license its 2020-24 Ligue 1 football rights to Canal Plus, giving subscribers access to two games per match week each season, starting from 2020-21. The pact would run for a renewable period of five years.

A previous partnership between the two companies was denied by France’s anti-trust board in 2016. The new deal will be submitted to beIN Sports’ employee representative bodies in France, and would see both companies retain their identities, brands and editorial autonomy.

Canal Plus Group chair Maxime Saada said: “We are very excited with the prospect of partnering with beIN Sports over this ambitious project, which is great news for our subscribers and all sports fans.

“beIN Sports has an amazing sports offer which perfectly complements our own offer to please and entertain all sports fans in the country.”
