BT Sport ‘holds talks with Rupert Murdoch’

Talks with News UK are said to be at an early stage

BT has reportedly held talks with Rupert Murdoch as it looks to find a partner for its sports broadcasting division.

According to the Telegraph, discussions with News UK are at an early stage, with no deal currently agreed. The report suggests DAZN, ITV and Discovery are also in the mix as potential partners.

BT confirmed in April that it was in discussions over a potential sale or external investment into its sports broadcasting arm.

The deal could include a full sale of BT Sport, forming a joint venture or partnership with another media business, or selling a stake to bring in new investment.

BT Sport launched in 2012 and currently holds the rights to 52 Premier League matches per season, as well as the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Both sides have declined to comment on the report.
