BBC, ITV, Channel 4 pledge extra investment in Freeview

Investment follows last year's decision by Arqiva to pull its investment from Freeview

The BBC, ITV and Channel 4 have agreed a new three year funding arrangement for Freeview.

According to investment news website Morning Star, all three broadcasters have committed to contributing a further £19.1 million each to Digital UK, the company that runs Freeview, and DTV Services, which markets the DTV service.

The new investment follows last year’s decision by Arqiva to pull its investment from Freeview and stand down as a shareholder in Digital UK.

In February, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 announced plans to integrate the operations of Freesat with Freeview, which the broadcasters said will help ensure viewers continue to have access to a range of free-to-view TV services in the UK as well as benefit from technological innovations and developments across the two services.
