Arri ties up VFX workflow

NAB News: Arri has announced two collaborations with visual effects post-production software makers: Tweak Software and The Foundry

NAB News:Arri has announced two collaborations with visual effects post-production software makers: Tweak Software and The Foundry, writes Adrian Pennington

Tweak Software makes RV, an image and sequence viewer for VFX and animation, and will integrate its colour support tools with Arri’s Alexa digital cinema camera for playback, dailies and transcoding.

“The Tweak development team has fast-tracked Alexa Log C and Arriraw support into RV in time for NAB, with a release planned soon after,” explained Neil Fanthom, Head of Market Strategy, Arri. “With this announcement, Alexa takes another important step towards greater adoption in high-end VFX applications.”

Seth Rosenthal, co-founder of Tweak Software, added: “The Alexa’s dynamic range and wide colour gamut make it a great source for VFX plates and elements. RV’s floating point, high dynamic range image pipeline, linear-light workflow and colour handling are a natural match for Alexa imagery in a high-end VFX pipeline.”

A similar deal has been struck with The Foundry, which has begun efforts to support the Alexa Log C and Arriraw formats in its Nuke and Storm products.

Earlier this year Arri created an expanded set of Partner Programme resources, including an updated Software Development Kit, Arriraw Converter and viewer and, information on the new Alexa V3 colour science.
