Amazon Prime Video ‘wins women’s tennis rights’

Reports suggest Amazon in Germany bid for Wimbledon rights but was rejected

Amazon Prime Video has reportedly won the rights for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) regular tour from next year.

BT Sport will cease broadcasting the main WTA circuit after this season, having held the rights since 2013, according to the Daily Mail.

Amazon already has the US Open and main ATP Tour rights, and offered £11 million (twice Sky’s bid) for the regular men’s tour last year.

The paper also reported that Amazon in Germany has had a bid for the rights to Wimbledon rights rejected. It called the move “indicative of Amazon’s ambition,” adding: “It would not be a surprise if they attempted to secure rights to the Australian or French Opens in the near future. These are currently held by Eurosport and ITV respectively.”
