Papercup IP acquired by RWS to power AI dubbing

Papercup's AI-powered dubbing technology enables accurate reproduction of a speaker’s tone, pace and emotion

Content solutions company RWS has announced the acquisition of Papercup’s AI IP.

Combining voice synthesis with thousands of unique AI voices and editorial tools, Papercup’s technology enables output to be fine-tuned, providing quality comparable with human dubbing while reducing costs and turnaround times.

Acquiring the intellectual property behind the technology, RWS aims to support its plan to embed AI throughout its technology stack. The strategic move enables the company to expand provision for users, offering multilingual video, voice and content localisation across a range of formats and channels.

Ben Faes, CEO of RWS, said, “The acquisition of Papercup’s technology marks our intention to transform all forms of enterprise content, making it easier for businesses to connect to global audiences. Integrating this hybrid AI capability into our own solutions perfectly aligns with the demand for scale and quality in this exploding multimedia space.”

RWS provides users with access to 1,800 in-house linguists and a network of 40,000 language experts across the globe. The acquisition places Papercup’s technology alongside its existing suite of language technologies, further enabling its hybrid, human-in-the-loop capabilities, said the company.
