SK Broadband has announced it will provide AI-driven UHD in real-time broadcasting.
In what the company said is an industry first, it will provide the SPOTV sports channel in UHD (3840×2160) quality, an upgrade from its existing full HD (1920×1080) standard, according to a report on the Chosun Biz website.
Based on SK Telecom’s SUPERNOVA solution, powered by deep learning AI algorithms, the integration of servers with AI graphics processing units (GPUs) will enhance video colour and clarity, raising the image quality and providing an improvement over current AI capabilities built into smart TVs.
Software updates will enable SPOTV viewers using SK Broadband’s Smart 3 and AI 4 Vision, which support UHD, to experience the quality enhancements. TVs that do not support UHD will still be able to provideĀ upgraded quality, said the company.
Jo Hyung-jun, head of the media tech division at SK Broadband, said, “Utilising AI technology, we were able to present real-time UHD quality improvements as the first among IPTV providers. We will continue to work on enhancing quality in a way that customers can perceive in the future.”
