Karen Bradley still ‘minded’ to refer Fox/Sky merger to CMA

Bradley told MPs her final decision may come during parliamentary recess

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley has told the House of Commons she is still ‘minded’ to refer 21st Century Fox’s takeover of Sky to the Competitions and Markets Authority.

She said she still has media plurality concerns is not worried about “commitment to broadcasting standards”.

The Minister said she needs more time to review representations by different parties. She said she hopes to come to a final decision in the “coming weeks” and that this may be during parliamentary recess.

“Unless new evidence from other representations changes my mind in the coming weeks the bid will therefore be referred to a phase two review on at least one ground – media plurality,” she told MPs.
