Rugby final was “most watched TV moment of 2019”

79 per cent of TV viewers on Saturday morning were watching the match

ITV has revealed that the Rugby World Cup Final on 2nd November was the most watched TV moment of 2019 on any channel.

The broadcaster’s coverage of the final reached a peak audience of 12.8 million, the biggest audience for a rugby match since the 2007 World Cup Final, also between England and South Africa.

This means that 79 per cent of TV viewers on Saturday morning were watching the match.

The average audience across ITV’s coverage was 8.9 million, making the final the most watched sporting event on any channel since last year’s FIFA World Cup.
