Real-time 3D graphics and virtual studio solutions company Brainstorm has added native support for the Canon Virtual Production System to its virtual production product line.
The company’s InfinitySet now supports Canon’s proprietary CV Metadata through the CV Protocol, integrating lens and camera shooting information in real-time.

According to the companies, the integration is a significant breakthrough for virtual production setups, as it ensures immediate calibration of Canon cameras and lenses that support the CV Protocol into the Brainstorm virtual production environments.
It enables creatives to concentrate on shot tracking, camera blocking and other adjustments without worrying about lens and camera positioning when planning the scene’s environment, saving time and producing more accurate results.
Supporting zoom and prime lenses, as the lens and camera data are reliably linked, including the distortion map if required, it is now easier to match the live or recorded footage with the background render and other synthetic objects in the scene, added the companies. Lens and camera data are automatically linked even if a crop frame setting is applied, so lenses and camera settings can be easily changed even within the same scene maintaining the coherence and accuracy of the blended image.
“This native integration is about facilitating our clients’ work and saving time and resources while prepping the scenes,” said David Moldes, Brainstorm’s product manager. “Virtual production requires perfect matching of the real scene with what the camera captures, so being able to supply the most accurate and reliable camera and lens data to InfinitySet allows for quicker setups and more reliable virtual content creation.”
