The Nine Network of KETC-TV in St Louis is to enable the online broadcast and live streaming of the station’s local programming for the first time with the Piksel Video Platform.

“We selected Piksel because of their ability to provide round-the-clock support to ensure seamless integration with our existing broadcast infrastructure at minimal additional expense,” said the Nine Network’s information technology director, David Thiele. “By implementing the Piksel Video Platform, we are extending our reach considerably simply by broadcasting live content over the internet.”

To advance its strategy to provide content on multiple platforms, the Nine Network will use the flexible Piksel Video Platform to stream live local content via web browser, on desktop, and on mobile devices. The solution also integrates the Nine Network’s closed captioning feed into the online broadcast player, thereby liberating its video content and making it available to a wider audience.

Kevin Joyce, chief commercial officer, Piksel, added: “Our viewer-centric approach and deep understanding of broadcast and broadband video solutions enabled us to provide a solution which perfectly met the unique needs of KETC-TV. The Nine Network is known for its award-winning original programing, like Stay Tuned, Arts America and documentaries that air nationally on PBS stations. That makes us particularly proud to welcome the Nine Network as a customer. This partnership is a great example of an innovative content producer taking exciting steps into the evolving world of digital distribution.”
