Netflix is increasing UK prices by up to 20 per cent in order to raise investment in more programming ahead of the launch of Disney+.
The company’s first UK price rise since 2017 increases the cost of a standard plan by £1 to £8.99 and premium by £2 to £11.99. The basic plan remains £5.99.
The move follows the streaming service raising its prices in the US in January and projections for Disney+ to reach 19.18 million subscribers by 2024.
This price rise is said to continue funding Netflix’s £12 billion content budget, with Netflix commenting: “We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.”
