Recorded over 60 million VoD requests

Discovery’s portfolio outperformed the TV market in the UK in 2019, which the company has called its “biggest ever year.”

Discovery increased its audience by seven per cent in a market that declined by four per cent. It also revealed the following across 2019:

  • Average portfolio share of 4.2 per cent, a YoY increase of 11 per cent
  • Highest one-day share of 5.4 per cent on 12th August
  • Record numbers of VoD requests in 2019, breaking over 60 million, a YoY increase of 26 per cent
  • Achieved 1.9 billion video views on YouTube, a YoY increase of 60 per cent

James Gibbons, EVP and GM, Discovery Networks UK, Ireland, ANZ, said: “In a year that Discovery celebrated its 30th anniversary and consolidated its ownership of the former Scripps and UKTV services, we celebrated stellar growth, with our share increasing by 11 per cent organically, and 45 per cent including the UKTV channel integration.

“We are seeing burgeoning demand for our VoD content on partners’ platforms and a growing appetite for dplay, our AVoD direct to consumer streaming product. This year we will continue to increase our investment in great content, new products and services.”
