The Royal Television Society (RTS) has named the winner of its annual Young Technologist Award, which is presented in memory of A.M. Beresford-Cooke. Matthew Tushingham, senior broadcast engineer, MediaCity Studios, was chosen to receive the award by a panel of judges chaired by Terry Marsh, consultant at strategy in digital media. Terry Marsh, chair of the RTS Young Technologist Award jury, said: “The RTS Young Technologist of the Year recognises the best talent in the UK technology industry, and Matthew Tushingham is a shining example of this. We were particularly impressed by his passion and commitment to the team, liaising effortlessly between broadcast engineering, digital production workflows and producers. His diverse experience, from working on the live Coronation Street broadcast to taking the lead on a major new project for CBeebies & CBBC, was inspiring and we are delighted to award Matthew this title.” The purpose of the award is to advance education in the science, practice, technology and art of television and its allied fields, giving the winner the opportunity to attend the International Broadcasting Conference (IBC) in September. Judges look for applicants to demonstrate how the award would enhance their understanding of technology’s role in television and related fields, and how the applicants propose to share their understanding.
