TV Tools contracts EVS to get newsroom to air

Nelonen, a commercial TV channel in Finland, and Helsingin Sanomat, a daily newspaper in the Nordic countries are installing a new newsroom facility using EVS’ news production solutions. The TV channel and the newspaper will be equipped with the fully integrated workflow this winter.

Nelonen, a commercial TV channel in Finland, and Helsingin Sanomat, a daily newspaper in the Nordic countries – both part of the Sanoma Media Group – are installing a new newsroom facility using EVS’ news production solutions. The TV channel and the newspaper will be equipped with the fully integrated workflow this winter. Sanoma Media Group has invested in the facility, both to produce Nelonen news broadcasts and serve its other multimedia operations, including Helsingin Sanomat. Sanoma brought in technical services provider Filmworks to help it design and implement a news production infrastructure. With its partner and system integrator TV Tools, they decided that EVS’ solutions were the best for helping to create the workflow and bring the group’s news to viewers. The newsroom will be kitted out with EVS’ fully integrated news production workflow, and the setup will see an XS server (pictured) ingest four HD-SDI incoming feeds and record news content natively with linked proxy files. EVS’ IPDirector software will control the server and help to manage the ingest process. ENG materials can be reviewed if necessary and files from news agencies can be imported, with proxy files being generated. A 45TB capacity XStoreSAN will be used as a central storage platform, with a Xedio suite used by news editors to browse content, produce on the fly rough-cut edits, build storyboards – provided as an ActiveX in Avid iNews – and exchange EDLs to Apple FCP craft editors, which are directly linked to the XStoreSAN. There will also be several Xedio CleanEdit stations with a Vizrt plug-in to help journalists and editors shape content quickly by simply adding graphics and video transitions, as well as record voice-overs. A second XS server will be configured to provide four playout channels in the news gallery. The EVS server will receive news stories from the Xedio suite, which will be linked to the rundown lists created in iNews – through MOS integration. Mosart Media Lab automation software will control the XS server as well as the secondary events in the gallery.www.evs.tv
