Precision lens manufacturer Thales Angénieux and stereoscopy specialist Binocle 3D have announced a partnership to provide live 3D broadcast services, with a new brand, AB LIVE. AB LIVE is partially built upon the technology of the AB One plug and shoot 3D rig.
The partners are applying their experience in 3D to address known pros and cons of stereoscopic 3D shooting: equipment size, weight, handling, and total operating cost. Binocle has contributed to many 3D productions for TV, with an expertise in stereoscopic shooting, directing, and image processing, and Thales Angénieux aims to ensure perfect matching and lens synchronisation.
The partners claim the AB LIVE system for 3D production reduces set-up time and cost and offers a global approach, from field capture to post-production, with realtime 3D aberrations analysis and corrections. AB LIVE aims to be a turnkey solution, with tailor-made support, adaptable to all live 3D productions.
The AB LIVE collaboration was unveiled at the Angénieux booth at this year’s IBC in Amsterdam.
