At the Band Pro Media Forum held last month in Burbank, Sony US President John Scarcella announced that the company’s HDW-F900 CineAlta HDCAM will have an environmentally friendly version this year, writes Michael Silbergleid.

Dubbed the HDW-F900R, the green version will be slightly smaller than the traditional F900 and will feature the ability to do timelapse photography, have a digital output and have slightly upgraded DSP. The F900R will use the same images as the F900. Pricing will be announced shortly, with availability at the end of the summer, 2006.

Scarcella also announced that Sony is almost finished with a software update for the HDW-F950/SRW-1 CineAlta 4:4:4 HDCAM SR package that will allow timelapse photography and variable frame-rate photography.

Also at the Band Pro Media Forum, Amnon Band, president of Band Pro Film & Digital Group announced that Band Pro delivered the 1,000th Carl Zeiss DigiPrime/DigiZoom in December. The 1,000th lens went to Plus 8 Digital. Band Pro is the exclusive worldwide distributor of Carl Zeiss DigiPrime/DigiZoom lens.
