Jampot sets up cinematic visual podcast production with Sony

The video-first podcast company has deployed a range of Sony cameras and solutions to meet a growing slate of productions

Jampot Productions has built a production pipeline around Sony’s Cinema Line range of cameras, aiming to drive a cinematic look as it produces fast-turnaround, multi-camera podcasts.

The video-first podcast company behind NearlyWeds, NewlyWeds and NearlyParents/NewlyParents has deployed Sony’s FX6 full-frame cinema camera with dual native ISO sensor and face/eye-tracking autofocus, as well as the Sony FX2, which features a 33MP sensor and doubles as a stills camera. The cameras pair with Sony G Master lenses, including the 24–70mm f/2.8 and 16–35mm f/2.8.

Footage is shot in 4K, 10-bit 4:2:2 S-Log3 at up to 700GB per episode, aiming to provide the flexibility for material to be repurposed from full 4K masters to social media clips. Automated backup and ingest minimise manual handling. The company is currently evaluating Sony Ci Media Cloud workflows to further streamline its processes.

Jake Ji, head of video at Jampot, said, “Podcasts are becoming the new broadcast. People still listen via their favourite podcast apps, but more and more want to watch as well.”

Cross-camera colour matching is provided by Sony’s shared colour science with S-Log3 aiming to ensure footage remains aligned across cameras and setups.

Lizzie McCarthy, Jampot’s video editor and colourist, added, “Sony’s Cinema Line cameras provide a lovely cinematic look and make skin tones look great.”

Studio design is bespoke to each podcast, with lens choice, lighting and camera movement tailored individually. Christie Patel, B2B marketing lead at Sony Digital Imaging Solutions, said, “Jampot Productions clearly displays how our Cinema Line cameras, and shared colour science, let creators build a distinctive visual identity while working at real production speed. We’re proud to support their growth as video-first podcasting continues to raise the bar for what audiences expect.”
