Riedel on the Reckord

The Czech outside broadcast provider Reckord has installed a comprehensive intercom system from Riedel Communications in its new HD OB truck, REC5 HD.

The Czech outside broadcast provider Reckord installed a comprehensive intercom system from Riedel Communications in its new HD OB truck, REC5 HD.

Riedel delivered a communications infrastructure comprised of a Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom system, several RiFace professional mobile radio interfaces and connections to remote studios via Connect Duo. Kit Digital, a system integrator and Riedel’s Czech partner, handled the installation. The truck will be the largest HD OB truck in the Czech Republic, equipped with up to 24 cameras.

At the heart of the comms system is a Riedel Artist 32 digital matrix intercom mainframe. This entry level mainframe provides up to 32×32 ports. Due to Artist’s modular approach the installation can be easily expanded by additional Artist frames forming matrix sizes of up to 1024×1024 non-blocking ports.

“The modularity in terms of matrix sizes gives the flexibility we need for future enhancements and upgrades making the Riedel Artist system a real long-term investment,” said Robert Kallista, managing director of Reckord.

Eleven Artist 2000 series control panels are used in the OB truck. They feature 8-digit LCD displays and provide custom colour control keys. The panels are connected via AES over CAT-5 and offer broadcast quality digital audio.

To enable communication to the studio the truck is interfaced via a Riedel Connect Duo. The Connect Duo telephone/ISDN interface allows remote connections to the Artist intercom matrix and its control panels over single telephone and ISDN lines.

To integrate professional mobile radios into the communications infrastructure, Reckord’s HD OB truck uses a RiFace, Riedel’s universal radio interface.
