Plans for a new film studio complex on the Isle of Wight have been conditionally approved by the local council.
First proposed in 2022, Medina Studios Ltd plans to redevelop a 14 acre riverside site on land currently owned by Isle of Wight council. Aiming to create the island’s “first screen-based media hub”, the company’s proposals include four sound stages, two workshops and production support facilities at Kingston Marine Park in East Cowes.
The council’s planning committee considered the submission in a meeting on 24th September, with approval granted subject to several conditions, which include the submission of a Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) aimed at minimising impact during the building phase and a Flood Warning and Evacuation Plan (FWEP). A Biodiversity Mitigation and Enhancement Plan worded specifically to ensure minimal impacts to the area’s slow worm and barn owl populations is also a requirement.
According to Medina’s website, the company’s creative vision for the project aims “to develop a self-sustaining, state-of-the-art media campus; a production hub for international and domestic film production, television, visual effects, and gaming.”
