Las Vegas-based live streaming services firm iStreamPlanet has based its new European Broadcast Operations Centre in a London data centre run by Interxion.
This will enable iStreamPlanet to deliver live streaming of premium sporting events, including major European Soccer and tennis tournaments, to a global audience on behalf of online rights holders and distributors, writes Adrian Pennington.
As part of the project, iStreamPlanet has installed a satellite downlink facility, enabling it to not only distribute live content over a wide range of content delivery networks, but also to acquire broadcast content via fibre and satellite. iStreamPlanet is looking to facilitate live, in-game commentary from inside its studios in multiple languages.
NBC Sports recently contracted iStreamPlanet to automate the acquisition, encoding and publishing of live HD feeds via satellite of the French Open and Wimbledon tennis championships via Interxion’s London Data Centre.

iStreamPlanet’s other clients have included the Masters Golf Tournament, 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, NASCAR, PGA, the Kentucky Derby and major broadcasters CBS Television, Comcast, NBC, Turner and CTV.
