Glensound completes SABC contract

Glensound has recently finished building 76 codec mixers for the South African Broadcasting Company (SABC) to be used during next year's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Glensound has recently finished building 76 codec mixers for the South African Broadcasting Company (SABC) to be used during next year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Glensound began work on the project in October 2008 with its South African distribution partner, Concillium Technologies. After going through the tender process and putting forward two options for consideration, SABC selected the Glensound GSGC5K, which is an extended version of the GSGC5 family of ISDN codecs offering more commentary functionality. The result, says Glensound, is a true standalone commentary ISDN workstation.

Prior to the supply of the GSGC5K devices, Glensound recently provided multiple units of the GDC-6432 commentary system for SABC’s new HD trucks. OB1 JHD and OB6 JHD each feature three GDC-6432 digital commentary systems and will be employed for day-to-day sports coverage in preparation for the FIFA World Cup.

“The GSGC5K is a great project for Glensound and the units will serve SABC for many years,” commented Glensound sales and marketing manager, Marc Wilson. “The SABC was also among the first to order our GDC-6432 digital commentary system for its new HD trucks via Sony Broadcast. I look forward to our working relationship with SABC continuing to grow for many years.”
