BBC Scotland invests in 4K/IP switchers

New switchers will be employed in news and production facilities

BBC Scotland has invested in a number of new 4K/IP switchers from Sony as it looks to future-proof its production facilities.

The broadcaster has acquired two Sony switchers for its Glasgow-based facility, a Sony XVS-8000 switcher for the news studio which is under the control of Vizrt Mosart, and a Sony XVS-7000 switcher for the main general production studio.

Both switchers support SDI and the latest SMPTE ST2110 standard to create mixed IP/SDI production environments.

“The demand for IP live production solutions in Europe and across the globe is increasing rapidly, coming with the appetite for simplified operations. We know that having versatile products which can be integrated with automation systems like Vizrt Mosart is extremely important for the efficiency of our customers’ production,” said Sony’s Norbert Paquet.

“We continue working closely with our customers, such as BBC Scotland, to bring flexible solutions which help them reduce the complexity of their workflows, drive efficiencies, and achieve greater ROI.”
