Røde goes wireless with Wi-Fi

Røde has entered the wireless microphone market with its new Wi-Fi-based RødeLink Filmmaker kit.

Røde has entered the wireless microphone market with its new Wi-Fi-based RødeLink Filmmaker kit, and has also introduced two new shotgun microphones with digital switching.

The Filmmaker kit includes a hot-shoe mountable receiver and compact transmitter that communicate via the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band using 128-bit encryption, over a range of up to 100m. “It is simple to use. You don’t have to do any channel selection; it will automatically connect to the receiver. It’s constantly looking for clear signals, with seamless switching between channels. You won’t hear any switch,” explained Jonathan Burrows, area sales manager, Source Distribution (part of HHB).

It will be available in April, for about £299, and will be joined later by hand-held and headset models.

Røde’s new mid-range directional condenser microphones are the NTG4 and NTG4+, with digital switching for a 10dB pad, a high-pass filter, and high frequency boost (useful where a wind cover has reduced high frequency audio). The NTG4+ adds an internal rechargeable 150-hour battery, which is recharged in about two hours via a micro USB port hidden in the XLR socket.
