Arqiva keeps viewers connected with Media Excel encoders

Communications infrastructure company Arqiva, has selected Media Excel’s HERO encoders, through Garland Partners, to support its IP streaming solution.

Forming part of the Arqiva IP streaming solution, the Media Excel HERO encoders will encode a variety of TV sources and output them as Microsoft Smooth Streaming video, while embedding time-sensitive data into all output streams. The data can then be used downstream on the player side, to reference the streams against an EPG or live to VoD workflow, via unified streaming services. Media Excel also helped Arqiva to develop customer interfaces (APIs) to ease the integration of the encoder with the different elements of the IP streaming solution.

Arqiva’s IP streaming solution can be integrated into its media management and occasional use service, so broadcasters can either deliver the content direct to its consumers, or use the solution as a confidence feed to monitor existing services. Additionally with the Media Excel solution, Arqiva now has the functionality to build and virtualise real-time live to VoD services, plus layer in quality-of-service and monitoring features.

Alex Pannell (pictured), media services director at Arqiva, said: “Garland Partners with its Media Excel offer has enabled Arqiva to deliver a high-quality IP streaming solution, which will ensure our customers are able to provide a consistently great user experience, thanks to the exceptional standard of monitoring and quality of service that the encoders provide. We found Garland to be extremely responsive and effective due to their expertise and understanding of our business aims.”

Media Excel’s HERO is a multi-format, scalable transcoding platform that combines the ability to do live and file-based workflows in the same platform. It is designed to provide the flexibility, density and high-quality transcoding required by today’s media companies.
