Virgin Media O2 has renewed its longstanding agreement with UKTV.
The agreement extends access to UKTV’s free-to-air channels for Virgin’s viewers, along with its pay channels U&GOLD and U&alibi, and streaming service U. The multi-year collaboration aims to expand the footprint of the U service to 95 per cent of Virgin Media TV households, through its launch on Virgin’s V6 boxes in the summer.

Last year, U experienced a 34 per cent growth in views, resulting in a doubling of its direct-to-consumer viewing figures within two years, said the company. Additionally, content hours grew from 7,000 to 9,000 and active users increased by 21 per cent. Virgin Media O2 has seen viewer numbers reach half a million every month across its FAST portfolio, which includes access to a range of UKTV content.
Commenting, David Bouchier, chief TV and entertainment officer, Virgin Media O2, said, “Providing our customers with access to the latest and greatest TV content sits at the heart of Virgin TV. From the launch of new FAST channels to offering access to apps and streaming platforms, we’re committed to curating the very best entertainment lineup for our customers to enjoy. This deal demonstrates the evolution of our fantastic partnership with UKTV and brings brilliant updates for our customers.”
UKTV’s MD, Sam Tewunga, added, “This deal marks the next chapter in UKTV’s valuable longstanding partnership with Virgin Media O2. We are delighted to be expanding our offer for customers, complementing the brilliant channels and programming for which we are renowned with access to our U streaming app and growing suite of FAST channels.”
