Analyst: No Netflix and churn (yet)

Globally, SVoD subscriptions will increase by 475 million between 2021 and 2027 to reach 1.68 billion predicts Digital TV Research

Netflix is predicted to remain the most popular SVoD platform around the world over the next five years according to new figures from Digital TV Research.

The analysts predict that globally, SVoD subscriptions will increase by 475 million between 2021 and 2027 to reach 1.68 billion, with six US-based platforms accounting for 47 per cent of the world’s total in 2027.

Netflix will remain the market leader with a predicted 253 million subscribers.

According to Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, previous forecasts that Disney Plus would overtake Netflix have been revised as it failed to retain the India Premier League cricket rights.

“SVoD revenues for Disney Plus will reach $15 billion by 2027,” said Murray. “Despite lowering our forecasts by 67 million subscribers, SVoD revenues for Disney Plus will be the same in 2027 as our previous forecast. SVoD ARPUs and revenues will increase in key markets after the platform introduces the hybrid AVoD-SVoD tier and the more expensive SVoD-only tier.”

Netflix will remain the revenue winner, with $30 billion expected by 2027 – similar to Disney Plus, HBO Max and Paramount Plus combined, said the analysts. Global SVoD revenues will reach $132 billion by 2027.
