swXtch.io and Telos Alliance partner on low-latency cloud-based intercom

The collaboration enabled virtual, scalable, broadcast-quality intercom for a major sporting event earlier this year

swXtch.io and Telos Alliance have announced they are collaborating to provide low-latency broadcast intercom in the cloud.

The partnership aims to enable broadcasters to provide real-time communications across multiple teams and locations, providing them with features and functionality matching their on-prem capabilities. First deployed at a major sports event over the summer, the cloudSwXtch intelligent media network provided the gateway for live production teams from a global broadcaster and a regional sports network to use the Telos Infinity VIP virtual intercom platform from any location, removing the requirement for traditional intercom matrices.

Simplifying connectivity of Telos Infinity VIP software panels from sites in Europe, North America and elsewhere with on-prem communications systems, cloudSwXtch effectively eliminates live voice communications delays, said the company, with the architecture also enabling the support of multi-language broadcasts, to include 22 languages throughout Europe, said the companies.

Commenting on the collaboration, Martin Dyster, VP of business development at Telos Alliance, said, “cloudSwXtch’s multicast switching capabilities, unavailable in other systems we tested, enables seamless connectivity in the cloud in ways that replicate the local area network functionality broadcasters have long relied on when using their on-prem intercom systems. Multicast connectivity sharply reduces the network traffic that results in very noticeable delay, reducing latency from up to 10 seconds to mere milliseconds and enabling real-time conversation without clipping and interruption. cloudSwXtch removes the clunky methodology that we would otherwise have to employ to make this work in a far less effective manner, and effectively positions Telos Infinity VIP as a truly enterprise-level virtual intercom platform.”

Brent Yates, CEO at swXtch.io, added, “cloudSwXtch was developed to solve networking problems for a variety of businesses, and that includes helping technology vendors migrate mission-critical applications with multicast dependencies to public clouds that lack those features. Telos Infinity VIP requires multicast to ensure that large numbers of camera techs, field producers, technical directors, and on-air talent can clearly listen to each other, get instructions and communicate as needed in dynamic, fast-paced production environments for sports and other live broadcasts. Working closely with the innovators at Telos Alliance, cloudSwXtch has made truly scalable, enterprise-level, broadcast-quality intercom in the cloud a reality for the first time.”

Continuing their collaboration on cloud networking ecosystem initiatives, the two companies said they are focusing on helping broadcasters to extend on-prem systems to the cloud.
