NEP Europe has modernised and relaunched an OB unit to boost software-based operations.
Launched as EU-03, the upgraded OB truck aims to enable broadcasters and rights holders to efficiently scale live coverage using a software platform to manage broadcast tools. Designed to meet increased demand for reliable 1080p HDR productions, the upgrade includes a full transition to SMPTE ST 2110.
Providing a software-enabled production environment supports the use of licence-based solutions, allowing users to configure a blend of software and hardware solutions, adding the flexibility to scale operations up or down depending on production requirements, said NEP.
Although designed to meet the needs of users across the European market, EU-03 will primarily serve users in the Nordics. The unit will be strategically based in Oslo, launching in April with coverage of the Norwegian Football League and other projects.
Connecting directly to NEP’s Oslo production hub, EU-03 will also support remote production workflows, enabling certain roles to be handled from the hub when appropriate, said the company.
President of NEP Europe, Lise Heidal, said, “Our clients want the freedom to produce more content in smarter ways, without taking risks on quality or reliability. EU 03 gives customers more flexibility in how productions are delivered, backed by the operational discipline and resilience NEP is known for.”
Eirik Nakken, director of technology for NEP Norway, added, “What matters most to customers is that live production works every time, and that it can adapt quickly when needs change. EU-03 is built to scale from smaller shows to major events, while helping customers optimise footprint and associated costs. Across Europe and around the world, we’re investing in this software platform-based approach, combining the flexibility of modern software workflows with the proven resilience and redundancy required for mission-critical live events. We’re very proud of the innovative solutions we’re providing to our customers.”
