Obsess Media is an outside broadcast agency based in La Plagne, in the French Alps. Since 2005, the company has specialised in producing, directing, and crafting compelling visual narratives for outdoor sports and mountain-based events. Their expertise lies in delivering engaging live video coverage in the most remote and challenging environments—whether in snow, rock, or air—bringing audiences closer to the action with creative and resourceful production techniques.
The Ski Mountaineering Sprint—which has recently been added as an Olympic discipline—demands dynamic live coverage across steep climbs, obstacle sections, staircase climbs, and rapid descents. Traditional broadcast setups struggle in these rugged alpine environments, where fixed infrastructure is difficult, and mobility is key.
The solution
Haivision and Obsess Media co-developed an agile live production workflow using a mix of mobile and fixed solutions, including:

- 4 broadcast cameras
- 4 PTZ cameras
- 4 smartphone cameras equipped with Haivision MoJoPro
- 1 mobile camera
- 2 drones
While MoJoPro-enabled smartphones wirelessly transmitted footage over the public 5G network, capturing dynamic shots from all-terrain vehicles, PTZ and broadcast cameras provided fixed-location coverage of key obstacle zones and finish lines via a fibre infrastructure. Meanwhile, drones delivered sweeping aerial views of the course.
“Because of the nature of alpine sports like ski mountaineering, it’s important to get up close and personal with the athletes and provide engaging camera viewpoints that help audiences get a better appreciation for what the athletes are experiencing,” explains Jean-Marc Racine, chief product officer at Haivision
“This is exactly what our partner Obsess Media were focusing on. By using MoJoPro smartphones, broadcast, drone, and PTZ cameras, and a mix of connectivity, they were able to produce the event in a cost-effective way that didn’t sacrifice quality while bringing the action closer to the viewers.”

The result
The production delivered a broadcast-quality live stream from a very challenging sporting environment. By combining 5G transmission with fibre-connected infrastructure, the setup achieved both mobility and stability. This approach allowed for a complete live production from the mountain to the audience—without disrupting the athletes or compromising the authenticity of the event. The coverage successfully showcased the intensity of the competition and demonstrated a new approach to mountain-based sports broadcasting.
“Capturing ski mountaineering in a way that truly reflects the speed, effort, and intensity of the athletes requires being right in the middle of the action. Working with Haivision allowed us to go beyond traditional production—we had the flexibility to move with the athletes and bring viewers a much closer, more emotional perspective,” said Damien Chailloux, CEO at Obsess Media.
