Stretch your scripted budget

There isn’t a production executive on the planet who doesn’t need to stretch a budget. From formats to production efficiencies, and from high volume soaps to mini-series, how does the rest of the world compete with US budgets to deliver high-end drama quality?

This IBC Conference session presents an expert group of panellist to supply some hard-won experiences and even – perhaps – some short cuts to make those production budgets stretch and deliver extra value for money.

Emma Turner chairs the session ‘Maximising the Impact of Local Scripted Content in an Expanding Global Market’ (9 September, 11:30, Room G102/3). Turner is hugely qualified having worked both in-house and as a consultant to projects such as UK productions New Tricks, Holby City, Hollyoaks and EastEnders. Triple-BAFTA nominated she has also worked around the world including development and executive producing dramas in India, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

She is joined by Endemol/Shine Netherland’s Kennard Bos (creative producer/scripted) who has more than 20 years at the sharp-end as both head writer and producer on some of the best-known daily dramas on Dutch TV. He is now co-responsible for the development of new drama shows for Endemol Shine Netherlands.

Award-winning Markia Makaroff from Finland is another expert panellist. She has produced and created content with extensive experience in both light entertainment and drama productions. She has been the executive producer for the most successful daily drama in Finland Secret

Lives for several years and has also produced international drama.

Sara Johnson completes the quartet. She is exec-producer and head of co-productions at Keshet UK, and among other responsibilities looks after its The A Word (a co-production with Fifty Fathoms for the BBC) and the recently commissioned comedy-drama Loaded which Keshet UK is co-producing with Hill Billy Television for Channel 4.
