Harmonic webinar: IT Infrastructure and Virtualization Applied to Video Applications

Harmonic's IT Infrastructure and Virtualization Applied to Video Applications webinar now available on-demand

Ian Trow, senior director of emerging technology and strategy at Harmonic, presents an exclusive webinar on ‘IT Infrastructure and Virtualization Applied to Video Applications’, which took place on 27 November, 2014. This webinar explores the fundamental issues behind virtualisation and explores how far this can be applied to video.

IT infrastructure is now dominant within video delivery and enterprise economics are increasingly being applied to video applications to move the underlying hardware onto standard platforms. Virtualisation has liberated enterprise applications to run across farms of servers rather than on specific hardware. This suggests virtualisation as being the next step for video conforming to enterprise architectures. However, video has always been difficult to accommodate in distributed IT deployments due to the heavy processor and storage requirements.

Ian Trow has worldwide responsibility for emerging technology and strategy for Harmonic. He has over 20 years of systems and design experience in HD and MPEG video products. His previous roles include director of compression technology at Thomson and VP of technology and marketing at Envivio.

Trow was at Tandberg Television for nine years, as engineering group manager working on MPEG-2 broadcast encoders, and later moving to become segment and product manager with responsibility for satellite, terrestrial, and IP delivery of compressed material. Before Tandberg, he was a design engineer at Snell and Wilcox and Sony Broadcast.
