The TVBAwards are taking place tomorrow in central London and there is still a chance to get tickets to the event, which celebrates success across the broadcast industry. Over the past couple of weeks TVBEurope has been taking a closer look at the finalists in each category and today the spotlight is on the companies nominated for the Start-up/Entrepreneur award.
The award is a new addition to the event this year, and unlike the other accolades which recognise success over the past 12 month, the award has a scope of three years to ensure inclusivity for recently founded companies. The winner will be announced tomorrow evening, at a black tie ceremony at the Bloomsbury Ballroom.
In the running for the Start-up/Entrepreneur award is Newstag, an online network based on news videos from trusted sources. Newstag currently has offices in Stockholm Sweden, Cairo Egypt and Singapore, and plans to expand its global footprint further. Newstag enables users to create real social impact and influence the global news agenda, and the company distributes five per cent of its revenue to NGOs. Users can influence how the company’s revenues are allocated, with every view and every share creating value. The free service allows the user to create their own personalised channel and make a difference through the consumption of news content.
Also nominated for the award is One World Television. The brand bills itself as a refreshing and positive light entertainment channel, which aims to provide a ‘harmony in the home’ for those who prefer entertainment that is not focused on violence and crime.
Vigour Video has received a nomination for its multiscreen solution. The company aims to revolutionise content consumption across all screens using a concept its call ‘contextual multiscreen’. Its platform connects all devices users already have and treats multiple screens as a single canvas. Its specialised technology and white label platform integrates contextual experiences into the core of the video services of its customers. The first commercial implementation of Vigour Video, MTV PLAY, was launched on 5 March 2015 with launch partner Viacom.
After working together for a number of years and becoming increasingly frustrated by the barriers imposed by a large company, James Burt and Camilla Young decided to create Vualto, the last finalist for the Start-up/Entrepreneur award. Vualto has evolved its offerings into three main products/services: provision of multi-vendor DRM (vudrm); build and integration of content delivery workflows (vuworkflow); and the provision of players and apps to consume the content (vuplay). Over the last three years, the company has grown its revenue year on year with 2014/2015 bringing in a revenue of £1.2 million. The team has also expanded from just two, to 16.
Tickets for the TVBAwards are available via the event website and include a drinks reception, three course dinner, entertainment and the awards presentation ceremony, and an after party.
