Thierry Fautier to provide keynote at TVBEurope 2020

Fautier, president of the new Ultra HD Forum, will deliver opening address on convergence of UHD and IP ecosystems

TVBEurope can confirm that Thierry Fautier, president of the new Ultra HD Forum, will provide the keynote address at the forthcoming TVBEurope 2020 conference at BAFTA in London, on 30 June.

San Francisco-based Fautier, who is also vice president of video strategy at Harmonic, is spearheading the new Ultra HD Forum and will deliver an address that will explore the convergence of UHD and IP ecosystems and the resulting impact on production workflows and delivery.

“The Ultra HD journey has started with the early release of UHD-compatible televisions and OTT services, as well as live broadcasts by a few service providers, mostly in Asia,” Fautier told TVBEurope.

“We are now faced with the challenge of delivering UHD broadly with all the bells and whistles content providers are expecting: HDR, HFR, WCG and next-generation audio. On the network side, the industry has already begun the transition to IP, for both production and distribution. UHD and IP will have to be coupled in order to gain the cost efficiencies and accelerated time-to-market required for large-scale deployment of UHD.”

Following his keynote address, Fautier will join Bevan Gibson, CTO of ITN; Dr Hans Hoffmann of the EBU; Thomas Kernan, Cisco; and Peter Schut, CTO and VP R&D at Axon Digital, on a keynote panel that will continue the exploration of UHD and IP’s convergence, and the options for UHD delivery.

Other recently confirmed speakers include Simon Frost, head of media marketing and communications at Ericsson, who will be presenting the title session, 2020: visions of the future; Per Hansen, senior technical specialist at Aspera, who will deliver the platinum presentation; and John Ellerton, head of media futures at BT Media and Broadcast, and Johan Vounckx, SVP innovation and technology at EVS, who both join panel discussions.

The full agenda can be found on the TVBEurope 2020 website, and tickets are available now.
