ProSiebenSat.1 announces sustainability initiatives

Aims to establish its own sustainability department

Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 has pledged to expand its commitment to sustainability in 2020, establishing its own sustainability department, initiating new initiatives and promoting existing projects.

These include:

  • Green Productions: a pilot project for “cleanly shot” productions, aimed at reducing CO2 emissions, protecting natural resources, avoiding environmentally harmful substances, and reducing plastic and waste
  • Media for Sustainability: a collaboration with Media4Planet (M4P) intended to support climate protection projects for the UN as well as other projects and NGOs
  • Public Value: ProSiebenSat.1 will continue its social and socio-political engagement via its TV channels and digital platforms in 2020 and further expand the share of information and public value formats in its programs
  • Accessible offers: ProSiebenSat.1 already subtitles more than a third of its total broadcasting time, and in 2019 introduced audio description for Germany’s Next Top Model and The Masked Singer. In 2020 the Group will further develop in this area

Annette Kümmel, chief sustainability officer, ProSiebenSat.1, said: “Social engagement and sustainability have always been part of our corporate strategy, since ProSiebenSat.1 is far more than a commercial company.

“We reach millions of viewers and users every day with our TV channels and digital platforms, which is a great privilege and a special responsibility at the same time. We want to do business with our group in an inclusive, sustainable, environmentally and socially responsible manner. We will continue to expand our commitment in 2020 on all of these topics.”
