There are already over 1,000 hours of programming, over 15 linear channels and over 25 VoD services in the 3D format available on the European continent, according to Vassilis Seferidis, director, European Business Development, Samsung.

The majority of 3D channels around the world are now found in Europe, where two million 3D TV sets have been sold in the last 12 months.

US research firm In-Stat says the market for 3D TV sets will grow dramatically in 2011, by almost 500%. They expect 100% of all 40-inch and above DTV sets will eventually be 3D-enabled. In-Stat research suggests that households with 3D TV sets will eclipse 300 million in 2015.

In 2011, Europe will boast the most 3D TV unit shipments at just over seven million, according to In-Stat.
