Fox Netherlands gains WTA rights

Fox Sports Netherlands has secured the rights for the Women’s Tennis Association Tour

Fox Sports Netherlands has agreed a five-year deal to secure the rights for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour.

The pay-TV company will begin exclusive coverage of the tour from the start of the 2017 season after agreeing terms with WTA Media.

Full details are yet to be released, but a WTA Media statement said that Fox plans to show ‘comprehensive and exclusive coverage of the full WTA Tour.’

Acquiring the WTA rights adds to an already established tennis portfolio for Fox, who already air the ATP World Tour, as well as Wimbledon.

“The success of tennis on our Fox Sports channels means that we were keen to add other events and, in acquiring the exclusive broadcast rights of the WTA Tour, we have been able to add the very best of women’s tennis to our portfolio,” said Rob Labree, programming director for Fox Sports Netherlands.

“We are excited by the prospect of being able to have access to live coverage of each and every match of the WTA Tour, enabling us to broadcast the most relevant matches to the Dutch audience.”
