Discovery Communications has agreed a long-term partnership with Austrian public broadcaster ORF that will see every event of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games made available for Austrian audiences.

Under the agreement, ORF will exclusively sublicense free-to-air audio visual and radio rights for its channels. The package will include selected digital rights to the content ORF broadcasts on its linear TV channels.

Dr Alexander Wrabetz, ORF director general, said, “With the acquisition of the rights for the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games, we are able to offer our Austrian sports fans the most important winter and summer sports events in full extent and in the usual top quality.

“It is that proven and internationally well recognised quality of ORF sports reporting that made the partnership possible.”

The London 2012 Olympic Games were watched by more than 78 per cent of the Austrian population, while 81 per cent watched the winter edition of 2014 in Sochi on television via ORF.
