Could MGM be about to sell its catalogue to one of the streamers?

Studio said to be exploring a sale of its film and TV library.

Exactly a year after reports that Apple had held talks with MGM about acquiring its back catalogue, the studio is now said to be exploring a sale.

According to the Wall Street Journal, MGM has has enlisted Morgan Stanley and LionTree LCC to serve as advisors in the process.

The studio has a film library of around 4,000 titles and 17,000 hours of TV programming, including the James BondRocky and The Hobbit film franchises.

Analysts suggest that archive could be of interest to the increasing number of DTC platforms who are looking increase their content in the midst of the global production shutdown driven by the pandemic.
