Canal Plus nets remaining Ligue 1 matches

Broadcaster has reached an agreement with the French football league following the collapse of the deal with Mediapro

Canal Plus has picked up the rights to broadcast the remaining matches in France’s top football league following the collapse of the League’s deal with Mediapro.

The LFP was left without a domestic broadcast partner after the Mediapro deal collapsed in December.

Mediapro refused to make payments to the LFP that were due in October and December. It was due to pay approx. €3.3 billion over a four-year contract.

According to reports, Canal Plus offered to pay an additional €35 million to broadcast the additional matches, on top of its existing deal worth €330 million euros for the other 20 per cent of the rights.

The LFP board of directors met on Thursday afternoon to formally accept the proposal from Canal Plus.
