Jon Wilson is stepping into the role of chief executive officer at Grass Valley.
Wilson, who joined as president and chief operating officer in October 2024, will take over Grass Valley’s leadership from Louis Hernandez Jr.
TVBEurope’s content director Jenny Priestley sat down with Wilson prior to the 2025 NAB Show to discuss his vision for the company going forward, what he’s learned from Grass Valley’s customers in recent months, and how tariffs between the United States and Canada could impact the company.
In terms of what Grass Valley’s customers can expect from the transition in leadership, Wilson says his focus will be on continuing to accelerate the progress and momentum that the company’s leadership team have been building in the business.
“What our customers should expect is no change strategically, but that we’re continuing to accelerate our focus on customer success, on operational excellence and really doubling down on all the progress that we’ve made over the course of the last 12 to 18 months in terms of where we are in readiness to deploy the next generation solutions for our customers across the entirety of the Grass Valley media universe, from AMPP through to all of our hardware solutions,” says Wilson.
Wilson has been spending a lot of time in recent months travelling around the world and meeting with Grass Valley’s customers. He says that one of the biggest challenges they’re facing is the ongoing technology transformation in the industry. “What’s helpful for me is spending time with our customers in their markets, [as] there are different nuances for our customers in the different markets in which they operate. And for us, it’s about how do we bring the best of our technology and solutions to their markets and help with real-world practical implementations of what they’re trying to do at a local level?”
One of the biggest challenges the industry is expected to face in the near-term is the implementation of tariffs on products going into the United States and other countries. As head of a Canadian company, Wilson has been paying close attention, and stresses that the company is being proactive and talking to its customers about any impact they might face. “What we’re committing to with our customers is that we’re going to continue to be as proactive as we can, monitor the situation and most importantly, be transparent with them about where we are,” says Wilson.
