Lucy Richer has been appointed acting head of BBC drama following Polly Hill’s surprise defection to ITV last month.

Richer, who was responsible for bringing JK Rowling’s novel the Casual Vacancy to TV, as well as Top of the Lake, The A-Word and Capital, is not expected to take on the role in a full-time capacity.

She is currently a drama commissioning editor for the BBC, and has reportedly decided against putting her name forward to succeed Hill, instead opting to hold the reigns until a more suitable name is found.

Reportedly in the mix for the full time position are in-house executive Matthew Read, who worked on Peaky Blinders and Doctor Foster, and BBC Scotland head of drama Christopher Aird.
