Discovery and BBC ‘planning wildlife streaming service’

Service will be owned by Discovery with the BBC licensing its back catalogue

Discovery and the BBC are reportedly planning to launch a new streaming service dedicated to natural history programming.

According to a report in the FT, the service will be owned by Discovery, with the BBC licensing its back catalogue of natural history programmes. Content from Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and Science Network is also expected to be featured.

The paper suggests the service will not be available in the UK or China, but will launch in major international markets.

The official announcement is expected to be made “within weeks” with neither broadcaster commenting on the report so far.
