UK Lottery seeks Clarity

Pixel Power’s Clarity graphics and Toolbox control technology has been deployed by Arqiva as part of its contract with Camelot, operator of the UK National Lottery, on the National Lottery draw shows, broadcast on the BBC.

Pixel Power’s Clarity graphics and Toolbox control technology has been deployed by Arqiva as part of its contract with Camelot, operator of the UK National Lottery, on the National Lottery draw shows, broadcast on the BBC.

Arqiva has been using the company’s Clarity technology for the past six months, following an initial installation late last year. Arqiva is the facility chosen by Camelot to host the National Lottery draw shows. It provides a dedicated studio and gallery together with editing facilities and Camelot’s production partner, Initial – an Endemol company – has a full-time team onsite to produce the shows.

Arqiva requested a Clarity 5000 specified with 3D and clips options. The operator interface is provided by Pixel Power’s Pixel Control Toolbox, which is an easy-to-use development and control environment for creating bespoke real-time control.

The Clarity has been deployed to provide a range of graphical content for use on an overhead LED display ring, information and results for the all draws during the National Lottery draw shows and to provide end show credits. Working closely with Arqiva, Pixel Power developed additional audio control functionality via Toolbox.

Stan Hollins, Head of Studios, Arqiva Satellite and Media, said: “The Toolbox application allows the Clarity to send MIDI commands over IP to other systems. The unit can directly trigger audio effects played out by our Spot On system. This has resulted in a much more powerful and flexible workflow than using GPIs to control other devices. It has the advantage of audio being accurately timed to the graphics appearing onscreen while all the other aspects of the audio remain under the control of the appropriate team and technology.”

James Gilbert, Pixel Power joint MD added: “The sophisticated level of graphics used by Arqiva and Endemol on the National Lottery shows is supremely effective, both in volume and quality and we are very pleased to be a part of that. It was important that we were able to develop the MIDI functionality to provide a tightly synched graphics and audio workflow allowing precision playout.”
