MTI Film has announced the release of its Cortex line of software-based dailies solutions. Developed from the ground up to support today’s file-based production workflows, Cortex provides an all-in-one solution for digital media management with simple but powerful tools for playback, colour, audio synchronisation, metadata management and transcoding.

Cortex supports virtually all digital cinema camera systems and camera formats, including the latest camera systems made by ARRI, Sony, Canon and RED.

“Cortex changes the dynamics on the set, offering a secure, simple and streamlined system for processing dailies,” said MTI Film CEO Larry Chernoff. “Based on our more than 10 years of experience in developing solutions for processing dailies, Cortex provides efficient and flexible means for managing digital assets while eliminating bottlenecks caused by differing camera systems and formats.”

MTI Film is offering three Cortex products, Cortex::Capture, Cortex::Control Dailies and Cortex::Convey, tailored to differing production applications.

Cortex::Control Dailies is a complete solution for managing dailies from the set through delivery. It features a comprehensive toolset for realtime playback of camera media, applying and adjusting colour looks, synchronising audio and video, and transcoding media for editorial, post production and archival purposes. Complete colour metadata can be exported with stills including ASC CDL parameters and any ACES transforms and 3D LUTs used for colour management. The software can run on a number of hardware configurations and can be used on a laptop, on a DIT cart or in a post production facility.

Cortex::Control Dailies is available in three configurations, Starter Edition, Pro Edition and Ultimate Edition. The Starter Edition supports output to Apple ProRes Proxy, Avid DNxHD 36 and H.264. The Pro Edition adds DPX, OpenEXR and higher bit rates of Avid DNxHD and Apple ProRes. The Ultimate Edition adds DVD and Blu-ray authoring.

Cortex::Capture is an on-set playback and colour correction application. It includes all of the features of Cortex::Control Dailies except transcoding. The Starter Edition, available from MTI Film at no cost, allows users to play back files from ARRI, RED and Sony cameras, among others, set looks and export stills with metadata for post.

Cortex::Convey is a dedicated transcoding solution designed for speed and simplicity. Powered by a multi-threaded background engine that utilised the latest GPU-accelerated image processing technology, Cortex::Convey can create from editorial all required deliverables for review, editorial and mastering. Like all Cortex products, Cortex::Convey is available in Starter, Pro and Ultimate editions that vary according to the deliverable formats they support.
