Development boost for glasses-free 3D handsets

MasterImage 3D has a new CELL reference tablet which should make it easier for developers and handset manufacturers to create autostereoscopic displays and commercialise mobile 3D devices. MasterImage 3D uses a cell gap approach to achieve an autosteroscopic effect. Specifically, its patented cell-matrix parallax barrier technology enables landscape and portrait modes, provides a 10 degree viewing angle, and reduces the Moire pattern that causes ghosting. The technology works with any kind of display, from TFT to OLED. Consumer electronics leaders are aggressively including autostereo 3D in new devices to enhance user-experience, allowing them to view user-generated images and video, 3D movies, games, apps and eye-popping user-interface design.
The CELL reference tablet is available in 4.3” and 7.0” with 10.1” coming shortly. It is based on PandaBoard, an OMAP 4 platform technology from Texas Instruments. “The depth and breadth of TI’s expertise will enable MasterImage 3D to deliver the industry’s most innovative autostereo 3D solutions,” said Roy Taylor, executive vice president of MasterImage 3D Display. “By integrating the OMAP 4 platform-based PandaBoard into our next-generation systems, we can provide high performance development platforms for the most demanding developers.” www.masterimage3D.com
