Creative workflows cross boundaries

In one of the clearest indications that the creative use of television technology is transforming our lives beyond broadcasting, the ISE convention has announced that its keynote will be delivered by techno-illusionist Marco Tempest. His magic incorporates computer graphics and interactive technology in a show which features a 32 screen video wall. The significance of this is two-fold. First, an internationally acclaimed performer uses video not just to present his work but as an integral part of it. Television facilities and production companies are as likely to be involved in creating central elements of live shows as they are conventional broadcast shows. This has been the case for a decade or more, perhaps starting with the theatre built at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas for the Celine Dion residency. More interesting is that Tempest’s keynote comes not at IBC, as you might expect, but at ISE, which is traditionally the show for the AV installation and rental industry. The digital dividend has eliminated the quality differential between ‘broadcast’, ‘industrial’ and ‘consumer’ equipment. Digital out of home applications like signage, stadiums and theatrical applications are as important a market for vendors and creative practitioners as commercials and programmes. “Whether they are combining multiple projected images to create a single animated canvas, building interactive kiosks for retail spaces or visitor attractions, or simply providing multimedia content for installed or live applications, ISE attendees are in the business of adding value by persuading people to suspend their disbelief,” said Mike Blackman, managing director of Integrated Systems Events. ISE takes place at the RAI Centre in Amsterdam, 29 – 31 January 2013. Marco Tempest’s keynote precedes the exhibition, taking place on Monday evening, 28 January at 18.00. Visitors to ISE can keep up to date with all the news with ISE Daily, produced by TVBEurope’s sister publication Installation.
