5G and sports are the future

Ronen Artman, VP of marketing at LiveU is excited about the possibilities 5G has to offer

Life’s very exciting at LiveU with substantial growth across the sports sector alongside increasing adoption of our 5G-enabled IP based services. This includes our Remote At-Home-Production technology, as well as content contribution and delivery via LiveU Matrix, our next-generation IP video distribution platform.

Earlier this year we announced that CBS Newspath has signed a multi-year deal for LiveU Matrix to handle contribution and delivery of live content to its 200+ affiliates and seven global news bureaus. Meanwhile, in July, LiveU Matrix was used to promote NASA’s special Apollo 11 Anniversary event with over 90 TV stations picking up the official NASA TV live feed over IP, for free, via our Matrix service.

WRC Promoter GmbH, the company that’s responsible for all commercial aspects of the FIA World Rally Championship, is using LiveU’s HEVC cellular bonding technology across 10 rallies in 2019. They include: Tour de Corse, Rally de Portugal, Rally Italia Sardegna, Rally Finland, ADAC Rallye Deutschland, Rally Turkey, Wales Rally GB and Rally RACC Catalunya – Rally de España. They are using multiple LU600 HEVC-equipped units with associated LiveU server technology and LiveU Central for overall management.

In the world of football, beginning with the 2018/2019 season, Sportradar Media Services, part of Sportradar, is bringing every kick, tackle and talking point from the 240 matches of the Austrian Football Second League to viewers worldwide using LiveU LU600 HEVC units alongside the LiveU Central management platform and LiveU MultiPoint solution for content sharing and distribution.

Sports is one of the fastest growing areas for wireless At-Home Production. An exciting project recently was the Australian Dragon Boat Championship 2019, covered by production company Floodlight Media using LiveU gear with support from our local partner, Pacific Live Media Pty Ltd. Several LU300 HEVC units were used from boats and drones to capture all the action from the beautiful Canberra beaches.
